The Chelsea Creek Action Group (CCAG)
The Chelsea Creek Action Group (CCAG) is a neighborhood coalition of residents from Chelsea and East Boston. We are a partnership of Chelsea Green Space and Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH). Our goal is to work for environmental justice through maximizing the environmental, recreational, and economic potential of the Chelsea Creek and the neighborhoods that surround it.
The Chelsea Creek & its People
The Chelsea Creek is one of the most industrialized rivers in Massachusetts. Along it's shorelines you will find major oil farms, factories, airport related businesses like parking and freight forwarding companies, an enormous rock salt pile, and other industry. There is little public access for the residents. The communities who share its shorelines include East Boston, Chelsea, and Revere.
What does CCAG do?
CCAG works with residents of Chelsea and East Boston to achieve Environmental Justice. We carry out our work through community organizing, community events, and direct action. We seek to work towards the vision for the Chelsea Creek that residents have created.
Environmental Justice
CCAG is dedicated to achieving Environmental Justice for Chelsea and East Boston. We believe that everyone has a right to a healthy environment regardless of your race, class, or national origin. We seek to build a base uniting people of color, low-income residents, women, youth, recent immigrants and other marginalized populations in our communities to work towards achieving this vision for our communities.
Youth Empowerment
One of the main aspects of CCAG's work is youth empowerment. In Chelsea, the Chelsea Environmental Crew, a team of seven youth from Chelsea High School, are working to engage more youth in working to reduce youth violence, for better public transportation, and for cleaner air. In East Boston, the Environmental Chelsea Creek Crew (E3C) works educating other younger youth about community gardens, the Chelsea Creek, and the Condor St. Urban Wild.
